Florida Man Accused of Killing Family Kittens as Punishment for Teenage Daughter

A Florida man was taken into custody this week following allegations that he killed kittens belonging to his family, reportedly using the acts as a form of discipline for his teenage daughter. Authorities confirmed the arrest after responding to a distressing report.

Arrest and Initial Charges

Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence in Pine Manor after receiving a call about a man attempting to drown and physically harm a two-month-old kitten named Luna. Bodycam footage released by the Sheriff's Office documented the scene.

David Charette Jr., 48, was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty. Investigators accuse him of causing the deaths of two kittens and injuring a third.

Disturbing Allegations Emerge

Witnesses informed deputies that Charette allegedly abused and killed the family's kittens in the presence of his teenage daughter whenever she "acted up" or was perceived to be misbehaving. During his interaction with deputies, captured on body camera, Charette offered a defense for his treatment of Luna.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno expressed profound concern regarding the allegations involving Charette's daughter, highlighting the disturbing nature of the case. "A daughter says that when she acts up or when she's in trouble, her father kills her kittens. This is sickening to me," Marceno told local affiliate WINK.

Prior Incidents of Cruelty

Investigators later uncovered information suggesting that Charette had allegedly been responsible for the deaths of two other kittens over the past year. In one instance, occurring in June, Charette reportedly suffocated a one-month-old kitten using a rag soaked in bleach, according to the sheriff's office.

In a separate event, detectives stated that Charette allegedly killed a three-month-old kitten with a blow-dryer.

Authorities indicated that both deceased kittens had been buried in the backyard of the property. However, during a subsequent search, investigators were only able to locate and recover the remains of one of the animals. Luna, the kitten involved in the most recent incident, was transported to a local animal hospital for medical attention and is currently recovering, as confirmed by the sheriff's office.
