Saints Rookie Receiver Jordyn Tyson Faces Potential Two-Month Absence Due to Hamstring Injury

New Orleans Saints first-round draft selection, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, is facing an unexpected setback at the start of his professional football career. The rookie could be sidelined for up to two months following a hamstring injury sustained during the team's training camp activities.

The 22-year-old former Arizona State standout, chosen eighth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft this past April, incurred the injury during a joint practice session with the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday. Saints head coach Kellen Moore, now in his second season leading the franchise, commented a day later that the injury might keep Tyson off the field for the initial part of the regular season.

If the current recovery projection holds, Tyson could miss at least five games. A two-month absence would target his return around Week 6, which would coincide with the Saints' road game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Following that, the team is scheduled to travel overseas for an NFL International Series matchup in Paris.

Initial reports suggested Tyson sought multiple medical opinions regarding his hamstring, sparking discussions among football enthusiasts on social media who were concerned about a potentially longer absence than just a few practices.

Coach Moore Addresses Injury Concerns

Despite Tyson's history of hamstring issues during his collegiate career, Coach Moore was quick to dismiss any direct correlation with the current injury. "I think my understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn's history," Moore stated, according to media reports. "Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this."

Moore further elaborated that Tyson had been performing well and adapting seamlessly to the team environment, having participated in every training camp practice leading up to the incident.

"He's played really good football," Moore commented. "Inevitably, this is the unfortunate part of what preseason and training camp football is. We've already had a few of these guys, that you just have something that comes up and ... we'll just work through it."

"He'll be fine. We'll get through this, and he'll be good to go."

Saints' Offensive Outlook Amidst Setback

Moore's primary objective is to build upon the positive momentum the Saints established in the latter half of the previous season, particularly after Tyler Shough, the team's second-round quarterback selection from a year prior, was named the starting signal-caller. With Shough having a full offseason to prepare as the primary starter, the Saints made significant efforts to bolster their offensive arsenal.

Tyson was a key component of these additions, having emerged on NFL scout radars with an impressive 1,101 receiving yards in 2024. While he faced hamstring problems in 2025, limiting him to nine games for Arizona State, he still managed to record 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns during that period.

In addition to Tyson, New Orleans secured their top receiver, Chris Olave, with a contract extension before the season began. They also acquired running back Travis Etienne Jr. this offseason on a four-year, $48 million deal, and Alvin Kamara is set to return, forming a potent backfield tandem.

For now, Tyson's focus will be entirely on rehabilitation. The Saints are hopeful their promising first-round pick will be able to join his teammates on the field as the regular season rapidly approaches.
