Erika Kirk Urges Conservative Students to Uphold Campus Movement in First Academic Year Since Husband's Death

Erika Kirk has issued a call to action for conservative students, urging them not to waver as they commence the first academic year since the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk. She challenged them to advance the movement he established in 2012.

Kirk, who assumed leadership of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) after her 31-year-old husband was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, shared a comprehensive message on Instagram Wednesday evening, primarily addressed to students embarking on the new school year.

She cautioned that conservative and Christian students might encounter hostility at their educational institutions but conveyed a resolute message: do not withdraw from campus activism.

“Your table might get flipped,” Kirk wrote. “Someone might call you every name imaginable because you have a Turning Point USA sign sitting in front of you.”

She continued:

“What are you going to do about it? Are you going to stop tabling? Are you going to shut down your chapter? Are you going to decide it is easier to keep your head down and get through the semester? No. You keep going.”

Embracing Courage and Debate

The CEO of the conservative nonprofit then invoked her husband’s unwavering commitment to bravery.

“Charlie committed himself to a life of courage,” she wrote. “I want to challenge you to do the same. He’d often talk about how courage is doing the right thing even when you don’t know how it’s going to work out. He would tell you that courage is being committed to the right course of action regardless of the cost associated with it.”

Erika Kirk also recounted how her husband intentionally visited college campuses where he knew he would encounter individuals who held differing opinions. His aim was to foster debate rather than simply engaging with an audience that already agreed with his perspectives.

“Charlie wanted the conversation; he wanted the debate, he wanted you to ask the hard questions and challenge him,” she wrote. “And he wanted you to learn how to defend what you believe instead of repeating something because somebody you follow online said it.”

She affirmed, “That is still who we are.”

Charlie Kirk's Enduring Legacy

Charlie Kirk founded TPUSA with the mission of promoting conservative principles on college campuses across the nation. He was speaking before an audience of over 2,000 people at a TPUSA event in Orem, Utah, when he was assassinated, leaving behind Erika and their two children.

Erika Kirk contended that her husband’s assassination ultimately failed to dismantle the student movement he initiated.

“What was meant to destroy the student movement my husband started 14 years ago did the opposite,” she wrote.

She highlighted the establishment of new TPUSA chapters and noted that students have been actively registering voters, setting up tables on campuses, organizing events, and engaging in door-to-door outreach.

Erika also extended her gratitude to the students for their support over the past year, expressing that being in their presence makes her feel her husband’s spirit.

She acknowledged the profound emotional impact of commencing the first school year without Charlie.

“It’s still so painful that it’s our first Start of the School Year without my Charlie,” she wrote. “It hasn’t been easy to do any of this without him.”

She concluded, “But he left us a blueprint for how to continue his mission, and that’s what we’re doing.”

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Tyler Robinson, 23, stands accused of the fatal shooting of Kirk and has not yet entered a plea. Following a week-long preliminary hearing in July, Judge Tony Graf Jr. is anticipated to rule on September 1 whether prosecutors have presented sufficient probable cause to proceed with Robinson's trial.
