A former Missouri television news anchor has entered a guilty plea in connection with the fatal stabbing of her mother on Halloween last year, authorities confirmed. The individual reportedly believed her mother was the devil at the time of the incident.
Angelynn "Angie" Mock, 48, admitted to one count of first-degree murder for the killing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, on October 31, 2025. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced the plea agreement on Friday.
Under the terms of her plea, Mock faces a life sentence in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving 25 years.
Details of the Incident
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the Wichita residence shared by Mock, Avers, and Mock's stepfather around 7:50 a.m. on October 31. Upon their arrival, Mock was discovered outside the home, exhibiting cuts on her hands, according to information released by the Wichita Police Department.
Avers was transported to a local hospital, suffering from multiple stab wounds, but later succumbed to her injuries.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made various statements indicating a belief that her mother was the devil. She allegedly informed authorities that she committed the act to "save herself." Mock's stepfather conveyed to a local television station that she had received a diagnosis of mental illness and experienced both delusions and depression.
Background of a Broadcast Career
Mock previously had a career in broadcast journalism. Her professional profile indicates she worked as a news anchor and reporter for a St. Louis television station from 2011 to 2015.
Before her time in St. Louis, she served as a morning anchor at an Oklahoma City news outlet from 2007 to 2011. Mock also held other reporting positions in various states, including Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska, throughout her career.
Her sentencing in the case is scheduled for October 5.
