An officer with the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia was taken into custody this week following allegations of an off-duty assault against an individual known to him, according to official statements.
Vincent Baglio, 31, an Arlington resident, faces a charge of malicious wounding, as confirmed by the Arlington County Police Department.
The alleged incident occurred on May 24 within a residential property, at which time Baglio was not on active duty. Law enforcement officials noted that Baglio and the reported victim had a pre-existing acquaintance.
"During a conversation, the suspect allegedly physically assaulted the victim and made statements threatening harm to them," police stated in a formal announcement.
The incident was brought to the attention of law enforcement on June 30. Baglio's arrest followed a thorough investigation into the allegations conducted by detectives.
In response to the charges, Baglio has been placed on administrative leave. This status will remain in effect while both criminal proceedings and an internal administrative review are underway, police officials confirmed.
Department's Stance on Allegations
Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn addressed the situation, emphasizing that the claims against Baglio are not reflective of the department's core values.
"I want to assure our community that the serious criminal allegations in this case represent conduct that is wholly unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with the values, standards and responsibilities of our agency," Chief Penn stated. "Such actions are in direct contradiction to the oath we take and the professional expectations we place on every law enforcement officer."
Chief Penn affirmed the department's commitment to conducting a comprehensive criminal investigation alongside an internal administrative review. He pledged that officers would be held accountable in accordance with the findings of these inquiries.
"We remain steadfast in our commitment to holding ourselves accountable and taking appropriate action based on the findings of those investigations," Penn further commented.

According to departmental records, Baglio became a member of the Arlington County Police Department in June 2024.
