This achievement marks only the second time in the history of the U.S. national team that they have advanced past the group stage in the knockout rounds of a World Cup. Their previous success came in 2002, when they bested Mexico 2-0 in the Round of 16.
The USMNT will now travel to Seattle for their Round of 16 fixture against Belgium, who secured their spot by mounting a comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Senegal in the second half, eventually winning in extra time.

Surrounded by Bosnia and Herzegovina defenders, Balogun skillfully turned and struck the ball with his left foot from just inside the opponent’s penalty area. The shot found its way through the goalkeeper’s legs, securing the first goal of the match.
The predominantly American crowd erupted in cheers, and Balogun celebrated by mimicking LeBron James’ signature stepping move, as his teammates congratulated him on his third goal of the World Cup tournament.
Red Card Drama and Second-Half Resilience

In the 64th minute, Balogun received a red card following a VAR review for stepping on a defender’s ankle during a foul.
