Trump-Aligned Super PAC Commits $10 Million to Boost Ken Paxton in Tight Texas Senate Race

A political action committee closely associated with former President Donald Trump, MAGA, Inc., has made its initial substantial investment in the current midterm election cycle, committing $10 million in advertising expenditures to bolster Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate campaign. This significant financial injection, detailed in a recent Federal Election Commission filing, targets a fiercely competitive contest.

The race between Attorney General Paxton and Democratic state Representative James Talarico is widely considered tight, with numerous polls indicating the two candidates are running virtually neck and neck. The substantial $10 million allocation is designated for both digital and television advertisements across Texas.

Paxton's Campaign and Trump's Support

Former President Trump's earlier endorsement played a crucial role in Paxton's success during the Republican primary, where he defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn. Following the announcement of the new ad buy, Paxton expressed gratitude to Trump.

Paxton posted on X over the weekend, sharing news of the advertising investment. The super PAC's decision to engage in this particular race comes after weeks of widespread speculation regarding its potential financial involvement in the highly contested election.

Talarico's Stance and Counter-Initiative

Representative Talarico, known for advocating for increased taxes on affluent individuals, recently criticized wealthy benefactors attending a Republican midterm convention scheduled to commence this week.

"Next week, billionaire mega-donors and their puppet politicians will gather at a convention in Dallas to clink champagne glasses and toast their own corruption," Talarico stated. "They’re paying $20,000 for entry to a Billionaire Ball celebrating corrupt tariffs, billionaire tax breaks, and a new forever war that are all driving grocery costs through the roof. We’ll be doing something different. We’re bringing Republicans, Democrats and independents together to collect groceries for our neighbors who have been screwed over by corrupt politicians."

The anti-Talarico advertisements, presumably funded by MAGA, Inc. or Paxton's campaign, sharply criticize Talarico’s proposed tax policies and his positions concerning rural hospitals. Conversely, these ads promote Paxton's legislative proposals, including a plan to double the child tax credit, offer tax deductions for medical expenses, and provide a $50,000 deduction for first-time homebuyers.

Campaign Funding and Super PAC Resources

According to reports from the Texas Tribune, Talarico’s campaign has amassed $72 million since its inception, with the majority of these contributions originating from small donors. In contrast, Paxton’s campaign has raised $16.8 million over the same period.

MAGA, Inc. reportedly possesses approximately $400 million in campaign funds. Speaking to reporters recently, former President Trump referred to these resources as "my money," adding, "I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us."
