Spencer Pratt, known for his reality television appearances and recent political ventures, recently directed sharp criticism at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Pratt's comments, shared on social media, pertained to a controversial decision by the state's Board of Pardons involving a convicted child rapist.
Controversial Clemency Decision
The Minnesota Board of Pardons, comprising Governor Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Chief Justice Natalie Hudson, voted on June 10 to grant clemency to Tou Lue Vang, a 42-year-old Laotian national. This decision came shortly before Vang was slated for deportation from the United States.
Vang had been convicted of repeatedly raping a 10-year-old girl between 2002 and 2004. Following his arrest, Vang reportedly told authorities that "it is a cultural thing... to marry and have sex with girls as young as 12."
Governor Walz's Defense and Pratt's Rebuke
Governor Walz publicly addressed the pardon, questioning its impact on public safety and the well-being of victims. "Did that make us any safer?" Walz asked. "Did that make the children that are left behind any more stable? Did it improve the idea that we can’t all be judged by our worst day?"
In response to a video clip of Walz's defense, Spencer Pratt posted a strong message on X on Friday, which quickly gained traction among conservative social media users.
"If you find yourself defending a child molester, saying: ‘WE can’t be judged by OUR worst day’, you probably need to have your hard drives checked," Pratt stated.
Political Figures Weigh In
Pratt's critique resonated with other Republican figures who also voiced their disapproval of Governor Walz's actions.
Representative Tom Emmer, the House Majority Whip for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, echoed Pratt's sentiment. "I couldn’t agree more, @spencerpratt," Emmer posted on X. "Tim Walz has ZERO morals. He is disgrace to Minnesota!"
Representative Nancy Mace, from South Carolina, remarked on the governor's past political aspirations, stating, "To think... he was almost the Vice President."
Florida Republican congressional candidate Tim Wilkins also weighed in, expressing disbelief. "I didn’t used to understand the phrase, 'bring common sense to DC,' but it becomes more apparent every day that it’s missing at every level of government," Wilkins wrote on X. "This is insanity."
Federal Action Ensures Deportation
Despite the state-level pardon, federal intervention ultimately led to Vang's removal from the country. Secretary of State Marco Rubio took steps to revoke Tou Lue Vang's legal status in the U.S. This action was intended to ensure that the Minnesota Board of Pardons' decision would not impede the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from proceeding with Vang's deportation, which eventually occurred.
Pratt's Growing Political Engagement
Spencer Pratt has become increasingly vocal on political matters through social media since his third-place finish in the Los Angeles mayoral primary. His recent activities include a meeting with former President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, fueling speculation about a potential future political campaign.
Pratt shared a photograph from his meeting with Trump on X, captioning it, "I will never stop fighting for my community."
