KFC Unveils Major Brand Transformation with "Open House" Restaurant Prototype and Expanded Menu

KFC is embarking on a comprehensive brand revitalization, encompassing an expanded menu and updated restaurant aesthetics, along with a modernized brand image.

The fast-food giant stated in a recent announcement detailing the changes that it aims to introduce a new generation of establishments engineered for guest comfort rather than solely focusing on operational speed. These environments are envisioned to be more dynamic, adapting throughout the day to accommodate various dining occasions.

According to company statements, the initial implementation of these newly conceived spaces includes an open-concept design located in McKinney, Texas. This location is set to reinterpret the brand's heritage with a contemporary feel and is anticipated to open in late summer.

The upcoming prototype restaurant will be known as "Open House," as confirmed by KFC President Catherine Tan-Gillespie. This test location will be situated near the Plano, Texas, headquarters of Yum! Brands, KFC’s parent corporation.

"We’re taking the idea that we can do all the things with our system, but how do we jolt the system and jump forward a decade?" Tan-Gillespie remarked. "What would the reinvention of KFC look like if the (founder) Colonel (Sanders) was here today? How do we take all of his legacy, his DNA, to a next generation concept?"

The "Open House" restaurant is slated to offer a combination of table service, a drive-thru option, and takeout services.

"It’s the idea of serving hot chicken in a warm and welcoming environment with a bold new restaurant design," Tan-Gillespie explained. "It’s the reinvention of product, promotion and place."

Expanded Culinary Offerings

In conjunction with these "next-generation restaurants," KFC has also announced several enhancements to its menu.

The company plans to broaden its selection of boneless chicken items and introduce an array of over 20 sauces. These new additions range from updated versions of classic recipes to internationally inspired yet familiar tastes. Notable examples of these new dipping sauce flavors include Chimichurri Ranch and Hot Honey Habanero.

Another initiative introduced by the company in select international markets, though not yet available in the United States, is "KWENCH by KFC." This beverage line features Boba Refreshers, Krunch Shakes, Sparkling Lemonades, and Iced Coffees.

In 2024, the company launched its inaugural "Saucy! by KFC" concept restaurant in Orlando, Florida. This specialized location focuses on chicken tenders paired with various sauces. Since its debut, the "Saucy!" concept has expanded to ten sites across Florida, with plans announced earlier this year to introduce it in Texas.

Evolving Brand Identity

Beyond new restaurant designs and menu items, Colonel Sanders himself is receiving a refreshed appearance.

The company stated that it is refining its most recognizable assets to appear more relevant, expressive, and aligned with contemporary culture, all while maintaining its core identity and staying true to the Colonel and its famous "Finger Lickin’ Good" slogan.

KFC confirmed that the brand’s iconic bucket is being "refreshed with new energy alongside a subtle evolution of the Colonel himself, ensuring the brand’s legacy remains front and center."
