Kate Gosselin Addresses Son Collin's Allegations Amid Upcoming Memoir Release

Television personality Kate Gosselin is currently addressing comments on her social media posts, specifically those concerning assertions made by her son, Collin.

The 51-year-old, known for her former reality television series, has been responding to remarks on her recent TikTok videos. These comments reference claims made by her 22-year-old son, Collin, who alleges that she intentionally separated him and his seven siblings and fostered division among them during their upbringing. Collin recently announced his forthcoming autobiography, titled, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood." Gosselin has consistently refuted all allegations leveled against her by Collin, reiterating her stance in her online interactions.

Kate Gosselin's Defense and Public Figure Status

In response to a fan who suggested she should "take him to court and sue him for defamation!" if she was "100% certain that the accusations against you are lies," Gosselin explained her position.

"I can’t because I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I definitely would!" she responded.

She continued to defend herself in subsequent comments, elaborating further:

"Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried. The rules are different for people in the public eye."

Gosselin also shared that she had previously "consulted a high power LA attorney" when "other people were putting crazy stuff out there," and that was the advice she received. She added that "The courts don’t honor it if you’re in the public eye."

In another comment, she stated:

"Sadly, only parents who have a mentally ill child understand! It’s so tough and I’m learning that people have NO ability to understand unless they’ve been through it themselves."

Collin's Allegations and Memoir

In response to his mother's statements, Collin reaffirmed his claims of mistreatment, posting on his Instagram stories that his mother allegedly struck him.

"Never forget the fact that my mom would write in her diary how she 'had to pray to God to stop hitting me' (this was while I was 2 years old by the way)," he alleged. "And this is why using my voice to put these things in the light is so important."

Collin initially spoke publicly about his mother in 2022 during an interview, where he stated he had become estranged from her. This separation began, he claimed, when she placed him in the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a Philadelphia psychiatric hospital, at age 12, without informing other family members.

Gosselin, however, maintained that she sent him to the facility due to a diagnosed behavioral disorder that she felt unable to adequately address. In contrast, during a 2023 episode of Vice's "Dark Side of the 2000s," Collin contended that his placement there was intended to prevent him from revealing her "abusive" conduct, asserting she sent him "somewhere where I wouldn't be able to put the secrets out."

Following two years at the institution, Collin moved to live with his father, who divorced Gosselin in 2009. His father was granted full custody of him in December 2018. Beyond Hannah, who similarly opted to reside with their father, Collin remains alienated from his other siblings, as well as his mother.

The 22-year-old's revealing memoir is scheduled for an October release. Collin shared the book's cover image online, depicting him as a child with his mother's hand covering his mouth, alongside the caption:

"For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story. Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw."

He continued:

"For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready. Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived."
