Supermodel Karlie Kloss recently offered a candid perspective on navigating the complexities of political differences within her extended family, which includes prominent figures from the Trump administration. She underscored the significance of fostering bipartisan conversations, even among close relatives.
During a recent interview, Kloss, who is married to Joshua Kushner, brother to Jared Kushner (who is married to Ivanka Trump), was directly asked about managing the unique dynamics that come with such family ties.
"I know who I am," Kloss stated. "I know the values that guide my life and the issues that I care about. So, you know, I haven't lost sight of who I am, but also, it's my husband's family."
Navigating Political Divides in Family
When probed about the nature of discussions during family gatherings, Kloss drew a parallel to her upbringing. She explained, "Well, we're sitting here in St. Louis, which is a blue dot in a red state. Since as long as I can remember, I've always been exposed to a lot of different political points of view and I think that trained me for my life."
She further elaborated on her political stance and her belief in open communication.
"You know, I'm a Democrat. I think it's possible to have relationships with people who you politically don't align with, and I think this country has always been a place for, for dialogue. We have to be able to talk to each other."
Kloss also clarified that she has never personally met former President Donald Trump, nor has she engaged with him on political matters.
These recent comments echo sentiments she expressed in a 2019 interview with TIME Magazine, where she addressed the challenges of balancing her public life with her association with an influential political family. At that time, she remarked,
"It’s been hard. But I choose to focus on the values that I share with my husband, and those are the same liberal values that I was raised with and that have guided me throughout my life."
