Deisy Maria Tovar De Hernandez, the wife of former Major League Baseball outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, was confirmed deceased following the catastrophic earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week.
Hernandez shared the tragic news regarding his wife in an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, revealing the profound loss.

Reports indicate that Deisy was at Hotel Eduards in La Guaira, Venezuela, alongside numerous family members of players from the La Guaira Delfines baseball team. The team was preparing for a game against the Aragua Tigres as part of a Mexican baseball league competition when the disaster struck.
Following the suspension of the game, Hernandez and his teammates rushed back to the hotel. Gorkys Hernandez played seven seasons in the major leagues, with stints for teams including the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants.
Widespread Devastation Across Venezuela
Venezuela experienced two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, which caused extensive destruction across the country. The seismic events have reportedly claimed over 1,400 lives, with an additional 68,900 individuals currently unaccounted for.
Amidst the ongoing search and rescue efforts, witnesses described harrowing scenes. Mileidy Romero, who was involved in the search for trapped individuals in Caraballeda, recounted the grim discoveries.
