A Florida resident is facing charges for allegedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend multiple times within their shared residence, an act he reportedly confessed to during a 911 call presented as evidence in court proceedings. Kyle Sanchez, 35, has entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder with a weapon in connection with the death of 37-year-old Amanda Roark, his girlfriend, as confirmed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigation and Discovery
Law enforcement officials responded to an emergency call at a residence on Tuscan Loon Drive in the Palm River area shortly after 3 p.m. on June 19. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Ms. Roark deceased, exhibiting trauma to her upper body. Mr. Sanchez, who was present at the scene, was transported to Tampa General Hospital for minor injuries and was reported to be in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators subsequently concluded that Mr. Sanchez was responsible for Ms. Roark’s death, which occurred while both individuals were inside the home. The sheriff’s office indicated that the incident is believed to be domestic in nature.
Court Proceedings and Bond Denial
Reports indicate that Ms. Roark sustained 15 stab wounds. During a pretrial detention hearing, prosecutors presented the recording of Mr. Sanchez's 911 call, where he was heard telling a dispatcher, "I murdered my girlfriend."
Following arguments from both the prosecution and defense, the presiding judge denied bond for Mr. Sanchez, ensuring he will remain in custody throughout the ongoing first-degree murder proceedings. Ms. Roark was employed at SOFWERX, a technology organization based in Tampa that identifies itself as "an innovation platform for the United States Special Operations Command." The organization honored her memory, describing her as a valued team member and "a light in the Tampa community."
"We are heartbroken by the loss of our Teammate Amanda Roark," SOFWERX said in a statement. "Amanda was a cherished member of the SOFWERX family and a light in the Tampa community. Her warmth, her dedication, and the genuine care she brought to everyone around her made a lasting impact that words cannot fully capture."
Talia Landman, a college friend of Ms. Roark, characterized her as "an absolute light" who greeted everyone with a "gigantic smile." Landman remarked:
"She was taken from us in such a horrific, tragic, and just, I mean, terrible, scary way."
Landman further noted that Ms. Roark was a skilled engineer who dedicated her time to mentoring young women interested in mathematics, technology, and engineering fields. Her friend expressed a belief that Ms. Roark possessed the potential for a future contributing to NASA's lunar missions within the coming decade.
"He didn’t just kill or murder his girlfriend. He took away Amanda Roark," Landman emphasized. "He took her life as this woman who had so much going for her."
