British teenage cycling talent Finlay Tarling has tragically died following an incident during the Volta a Portugal race on Friday, his team, NSN Cycling Team, confirmed via social media.

Tarling, 19, was a promising athlete whose passing has deeply affected the cycling community. His team expressed immense sorrow, stating:

The incident reportedly occurred when Tarling was struck by a car that entered the race route. According to local accounts, the driver allegedly failed to observe warnings from event stewards and proceeded onto the road in the direction opposite to the race flow.

The collision happened during the eighth stage of the event, which was taking place between the towns of Melgaço and Fafe in northern Portugal. Medical personnel were immediately on the scene to attend to Tarling. It remains unconfirmed whether any other riders were involved in the incident.
