Federal immigration authorities recently arrested 15 undocumented individuals over a weekend, many of whom had prior convictions for serious offenses such as homicide, rape, child sex crimes, and drug trafficking.
These apprehensions occurred as the Trump administration continues to escalate its deportation initiatives through expanded interior enforcement operations. Simultaneously, the administration has been curtailing protections for hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants and significantly increasing detention capabilities.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) underscored the agency's dedication to its mission. "Over the weekend, while Americans attended the Great American State Fair and enjoyed their summer weekends, the men and women of ICE were hard at work arresting criminal illegal aliens convicted of homicide, child sexual abuse, assault, rape, and drug trafficking," Bis stated. "Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, ICE will continue to protect Americans by arresting and removing criminal illegal aliens from our country."
Details of Arrests and Broader Enforcement
Among the 15 individuals apprehended over the weekend, several had severe criminal convictions. Nine of those arrested had records for various offenses, including child sex crimes, assault with a deadly weapon, and witness tampering.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently indicated that the agency is on pace to surpass the deportation figures from 2025. That year saw 442,000 formal deportations and removals, with DHS reporting a total of over 605,000 removals. Mullin shared this projection in a video posted by the administration's Rapid Response account.
"In fact, within the next six weeks, we'll probably pass what we deported in all of 2025," Mullin commented.
Beyond focusing on individuals with violent criminal histories for deportation, immigration authorities have also concentrated their efforts on those involved in fraud and individuals who obtained U.S. citizenship through fraudulent means.
