Cincinnati Reds center fielder Dane Myers was carted off the field Monday night in Milwaukee following a dramatic collision with the outfield wall. The incident occurred after Myers completed a spectacular catch against the Milwaukee Brewers, a play that could be considered a contender for "Catch of the Year."
Spectacular Play Ends in Injury
The play unfolded in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brewers veteran Andrew Vaughn hit a powerful drive to center field. Myers demonstrated exceptional athleticism, getting an excellent jump and tracking the ball as he sprinted towards the gap.
In a remarkable display, Myers reached up to make an acrobatic catch. However, his momentum carried him too close to the fence, and he lost his balance, colliding with the wall at high speed. Despite the forceful impact, Myers managed to maintain control of the ball, securing the out, though the collision clearly took a significant toll on him.
Immediately after the crash, Myers was seen writhing in pain on the warning track, bending over as his fellow outfielders rushed to his side. The Reds' training staff quickly sprinted onto the field to attend to him. Myers was observed clutching his right shoulder, even though the primary impact with the fence appeared to be head-on.
Trainers spent a considerable amount of time assessing Myers' condition, during which the crowd fell silent, anxiously hoping to see him walk off under his own power.
