UFC President Dana White has offered a detailed account of the highly successful "Freedom 250" event, which took place on the White House South Lawn. Following what became the most-watched UFC fight in history, White is celebrating the achievement.
White recently appeared on a prominent radio program to discuss the extensive success of the June 14 festivities, which unfolded directly on the historic grounds.
The combat sports executive explained that the reality of orchestrating such an event surpassed even the most imaginative cinematic narratives.
"If you wrote a script, you wouldn't believe all the things that happen in this thing," White commented.
Planning the Historic Spectacle
Footage from a recent documentary showed former President Donald Trump actively participating in discussions during the initial planning and stage-building phases of the project. Known for his background in construction and development, Trump was observed meticulously mapping out the large outdoor setup, aiming to accommodate as many spectators as possible.
While standing on the historic grounds before the event, Trump outlined his vision:
"You could have an arena of 8,000 right here, and then you could do something there nice, whether it's stand-up or seats, around the fountain. What do you think your maximum is?" Trump inquired in the clips.
Trump’s approach was not to suggest but to insist on an impressive stage construction on the lawn, despite the inherent challenges posed by the historic landscape.
"My concept was right smack at the front door to the White House, build it as big as you can, you know, we're a little confined because of trees and these beautiful plantings and everything else, so it's not easy," the former president stated during the planning stages.
Overcoming Logistical Hurdles
The host of the radio show noted that having the President of the United States facilitate the process undoubtedly streamlined operations. White concurred, acknowledging Trump's leadership in navigating the significant logistical undertaking required to execute the event.
"Well, he was the one that kept pushing us harder and harder to be able to get more seats and to get people in there," White explained.
White further elaborated on Trump's persistent demands:
"[Trump] was pushing hard on that, and every time he would push, we would try to figure it out. But, I mean, we built basically a stadium on the South Lawn of the White House, and then I think what we did at The Ellipse is even more impressive."
He added, reflecting on the scale, "I mean everything that went into that and the amount of people that were over there."
Record-Breaking Success and Unforeseen Elements
The "Freedom 250" event set new records, becoming the most-watched domestic event in the company's history, drawing an astounding 34 million global viewers. Additionally, an estimated 85,000 fans attended the Fan Fest held at The Ellipse.
Perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of the entire production involved an unexpected weather phenomenon. White recounted a bizarre, almost miraculous, meteorological event that spared the outdoor fight night just as conditions appeared dire.
"Literally, the storm is coming to hit the White House and it breaks apart and goes around the White House and the Ellipse and continues on," White shared. "It's incredible, unbelievable, and it was an amazing night."
The weekend had initially faced a rocky start when a thunderstorm struck Washington D.C., forcing the postponement of the fighters' Friday night press conference at the Lincoln Memorial. However, the considerable gamble ultimately delivered a perfect outcome for everyone involved.
"And battling the weather, the elements, you know, all the unknown, the event could not have gone better," White concluded, reflecting on the overall triumph.
