A Chicago television news reporter and their photographer experienced an assault on Monday afternoon while preparing for a live broadcast near the city's Adler Planetarium, authorities and the station confirmed.

According to law enforcement, several men arrived in a truck, then reportedly exited the vehicle, approaching the journalists while directing racial slurs at one of them.

Attack Details Emerge

Police stated that the individuals commanded a dog to attack the news team. When the animal did not comply, the suspects reportedly began vandalizing the crew's equipment. Reports from the news outlet indicated that one assailant destroyed the photographer's camera, while another shattered the windshield of the news vehicle.

Both journalists managed to leave the scene without physical injury.

A detailed statement from police elaborated on the encounter:

"One of the offenders directed a dog to attack a 54-year-old male victim while yelling slurs. When the dog did not attack, the male offender became irate and damaged the victim's property by throwing it on the ground. All the offenders re-entered the white truck and fled the scene in an unknown direction. There are no injuries reported."
