Cedric Alexander successfully defended his Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship on Sunday night at Slammiversary, navigating a demanding Ultimate X match against six formidable opponents.
This marked Alexander's initial defense of the prestigious title and the 55th Ultimate X contest in TNA history. The star-studded lineup included Amazing Red, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, Leon Slater, KC Navarro, and Mr. Elegance. Notably, the event also saw Amazing Red's return to a TNA ring after approximately 15 years. The objective of the Ultimate X match is for a competitor to ascend one of the corner structures, traverse the high-flying cables suspended above the ring, and retrieve the championship belt.
Intense Competition and Strategic Maneuvers
The match began with several competitors simultaneously vying for the championship. Alexander, Kazarian, Red, and Aichner all made early attempts to reach the belt. During this initial scramble, Alexander slipped, inadvertently causing Aichner to fall. Red and Kazarian also descended to the canvas, creating an opening for them to demonstrate their veteran prowess. Mr. Elegance attempted to capitalize on the momentary disarray, but KC Navarro quickly thwarted his efforts.
Amazing Red then entered the ring, executing a "Code Red" maneuver on Navarro, followed by the same move on Kazarian. As Red prepared to ascend for the title, Leon Slater intercepted him, disrupting his climb.
Slater soon gained significant momentum. Realizing his direct path to the title was blocked, he unleashed a double blockbuster, incapacitating Aichner, Elegance, Kazarian, and Navarro. With the ring momentarily cleared, Slater then raced Amazing Red towards the title, both men grappling for position along the suspended cables.
Alexander's Decisive Intervention
As Slater managed to unhook the championship belt, with both himself and Red dangling precariously from the wires high above the ring, Cedric Alexander made a critical move. Alexander re-entered the ring and, in a swift and opportunistic action, seized the championship belt directly from Slater's hands.
The referee declared Alexander the victor, as neither Slater nor Red had touched the mat after Alexander acquired the title. This cunning maneuver allowed Alexander to retain the championship he had previously won from Slater, preventing Slater from reclaiming the title and ending his own bid for a significant achievement. Alexander will continue his reign as X Division Champion.
