Controversial social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate were taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Miami, Florida, on Saturday. The arrests were made under a sealed warrant, coinciding with an announcement from British prosecutors detailing a significant expansion of criminal charges against the brothers and an official request for their extradition to the United Kingdom.
Bedfordshire Police confirmed the Saturday arrests in Miami, stating they were connected to a U.K. police investigation into alleged sexual offenses that date back to 2012.
Media reports, including photos and video, depicted federal agents handcuffing the brothers outside the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami. Andrew Tate had been scheduled to appear at a bare-knuckle boxing event at that venue.
Expanded Allegations and Extradition Request
The arrests occurred just hours after Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) publicly confirmed its approval for a substantial increase in the criminal case against Andrew and Tristan Tate. Bedfordshire Police indicated that these new charges bring the total count against the brothers to 59. Andrew Tate now faces 42 charges, while Tristan Tate faces 17.
According to the CPS, the additional charges against Andrew Tate encompass allegations of rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and offenses related to alleged indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Prosecutors also stated that Tristan Tate is now facing further charges, including rape, sexual assault, and trafficking.
The CPS specified that the alleged crimes span from 2010 to 2017 and involve four new alleged victims, elevating the total number of alleged victims in the U.K. case to seven.
“The CPS has requested the extradition of the Tates from the US,” stated Malcolm McHaffie, who heads the CPS Special Crime Division. “They have been arrested and await extradition proceedings to the UK.”
The brothers are anticipated to make their initial appearance in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida early next week.
